ARM to enter the netbook segment

The popular small scale processor maker in small devices seems to be interested in the much happening segment of netbooks. ARM has expressed their plans to enter this market segment.

Probably the most interesting feature about the ARM processors are its impressive power consumption numbers apart from being reasonably fast. The devices that runs in the processor architecture are so far pretty good with video playback, web browsing and great battery life.

The popular mobile phone from Apple, the iPhone also runs in this processor architecture.

But the biggest setback for this processor architecture is that it is not x86 compatible and hence wont run the currently available popular desktop operating systems. Perhaps the only option is to run a linux based OS that supports this processor architecture. But the mobile version of Windows OS, the Windows mobile, can run in this platform.

With already so much of processors and OSes going rounds in the netbook segment, the arrival of this may further crowd the already overcrowded market. But for the consumer, more choices means better deals and hence I wont be complaining about it.
