Honda Civic hybrid limited period offer expires

The limited period offer that Honda had been offering on its green car, the Civic hybrid as expired almost immediately following huge demand from buyers.

The offer was made on around the November 10th time period and Honda offered a huge discount of almost 8 lakhs on its hybrid version of the car. The Civic hybrid was available for 13.65 lakhs. The original launch price for the same car was 20+ lakhs.

With the whooping price discount, the company obviously has had thousands of inquiries and more than 200 bookings. Since the demand has been met and it will take several more months to get new orders of such cars, the company has closed the offer. The car is imported as a CBU (Completely built unit) and hence attracts more than 100 % of tax.

It is said that the Civic hybrid, the first of its kind in India, sold nearly 50 cars in the first month of the launch and then the sales declined so much that in the next few months, sonly single digit numbers of the car was sold. Since the car was identical to the one priced at half its price and that the saved cost by going to hybrid is not going to compensate for the additional investment, many deferred from buying it.

This must have been a stock clearance type of sale as Honda realized that not even decent sales are going to happen to the car at that price. I can only feel sorry for the guys who purchased the car at 20+ lakhs as they would have been shocked to hear that their exactly same car was available for 8 lakhs less and this would have a major impact on the resale values as well.
