In what happens to be a major error on the part of the virus definition files in the popular free antivirus AVG, it seems to detect a system file as a Trojan horse and removes it.
Users who have been affected by this will not be able to boot successfully into their OS after the antivirus removes the system file. They will have to do a system repair from the OS CD/DVD.
This only happens when users have updates to the faulty virus definition file and then performed a full system scan. Windows XP users are reportedly affected by this and it seems only some Vista users are experiencing the issue. Users with AVG version 7.5 and 8.0 will be affected.
The issue has been corrected as of now with the most recent updated virus definition file.
