It is a very well known fact that the initial batch of the Microsoft Xbox 360 gaming platform suffered from a common issue known as Red Ring of Death (RROD). It was estimated that almost 1/3rd of all the consoles sold suffered from this problem. Although Microsoft provided extended warranties and such to encourage users from overlooking the issue, people were not happy with it.
The issue occurs when the console fails in hardware and just displays a series of 3 red lights signifying that the problem has occurred and the console is unusable without repair. The problem is said to be some kind of hardware failure which some say is due to the faulty motherboard. Though Microsoft will readily replace the consoles with this error when they are under warranty, for those who had their warranty period expired, this posed a big problem.
Some claim that the hardware problem has been rectified with the newer consoles that have received a die shrink. While this may be true, users are still not willing to take the risk fearing the failure. Some have even experienced the failure about 2-3 times even after servicing from Microsoft under warranty.
For those whom the warranty has expired, Microsoft charges about $140 to fix the issue which is rather too much for no mistake on the part of the user. So the users are looking to repair the console from local services. But due to lack of proper knowledge and equipments needed, they can’t repair it effectively. Now there is a new site called www.xbox360repair.ca which specializes in the console’s red ring of death problem. They can be found here. They claim to provide assistance as to how to fix the Xbox 360 Failure . They claim that it is due to the Graphical processing unit coming off loose and that it can be fixed in about 90 minutes. They have repaired about 1000 consoles with this problem and the fix has worked at about 90% of the times. Now this is definitely a cheaper and easier method to fix the RRoD issue in Xbox 360 consoles particularly for those with expired warranty.
