New Nvida driver to take back the performance crown

Nvidia has made available a new driver for its high end graphic cards that has been said to increase the performance by a good margin over the previous ones.

The new driver version is 180.x which claim to achieve this feat. As a result, several benchmarks over the web has shown that GTX 260 and GTX 280 have increased in performance by a large enough margin that it actually outruns the AMD HD4870 by a good enough margin and is again a reasonable buy in the higher end graphic cards.

However this performance upgrade through driver is said to be only for the newer series GTX 2x0 which are ultra high end and the 9 series and 8 series response to these drivers is still to be benchmarked. Whatever the perfomrance crown in this price segment has once again fallen to Nvidia.

AMD had been ruling over the graphic card market with its HD 4xxx series of cards lately and even managed to take the overall performance crown with the X2 cards. Even now in the budget and mid range segments, their cards offer very good performance for thier price. Now all eyes are set at AMD/ATi as gaming enthusiasts are expecting them to come up with a similar performance driver.
