BMW's fully electri mini E

BMW has unveiled its new fully electric variant of its popular small car mini. Unlike the hybrid cars which run partly in petrol and partly in electricity, this one runs fully in electricity.

The battery for this must be beefed up to be able to run in only electricity and indeed it is. Ti consists of a Lithium-ion type rechargeable high performance 5088 individual cells and is air-cooled. The battery weighs 260 kg and is kept in the place of the rear seats.

Being an all-electric, don’t ever underestimate its performance. It is capable of 204 bhp with 220 nm of torque. The 0-60 mph comes in around 8.5 sec which is great for an electric car. The top speed is around 100 mph which is electronically limited.

The battery takes about 8 hours to recharge completely and can power the car foe about 250 km. It can recharge the battery while braking. The rest of the car is similar to the traditional fuel one.

This may be the start of the transition from partly electric to fully electric vehicles and several more variants of these may be used in other vehicles as well.
