After five other countries, India became the sixth nation to launch an unmanned mission to the moon. Chandrayaan-1 meaning “Moon Craft” in Sanskrit was launched into space 2 days ago. The scientists involved in the mission were cheering and congratulating each other for creating an historic moment in Indian history when they successfully launched the craft.

ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) president Madhavan Nair expressed his views as it is going to unravel the mysteries of the moon by studying not only the surface of the moon but also what lies underneath it and in the other dark side of the moon.

So far only communication satellites and weather satellites have been launched by the ISRO and this is the first time that this kind of attempt has been made.

ISRO has expressed that it plans to launch several more satellites into the space in the forthcoming years and a manned mission to the moon probably at the end of next decade.
