Another round of job cuts from Yahoo

By Praveen Edburg | Tuesday, December 16, 2008

It seems the people at Yahoo are being laid off with intervals ranging from a few months times. As far as I know, this is the third time in the recent months that Yahoo has been in the news for employee layoffs.

These lay offs and job cuts signify the current position of the internet major - desperate. Earlier the CEO of Yahoo Jerry Yang who was also the co-founder of Yahoo was forced to step down and the new CEO is yet to be announced. Already the stocks of Yahoo have reached an all time low and with Microsoft withdrawing its bid to take over the company, it seems Yahoo is on its way down.

Recently I have been really annoyed by the Yahoo services. Firstly their home page is too bloated and doesn't suit my taste to search for something really quick. Then their new mail interface is a disaster and doesn't work in my favorite Opera browser. Also I get annoyed by the big advertisement banners. Then the yahoo messenger is buggy and crashed several times and my favourite Yahoo messenger for Vista has been stopped from developement.

All this made me switch from Yahoo services to some other ones. The only thing that I still used from Yahoo is the Yahoo maps in the mgmaps application for my mobile.
