CRT TVs still selling

In this age of LCDs and plasmas, one would have been tempted to think that gone are the days when CRT televisions ruled the TV market. Infact one could easily associate the CRT TV to something very old and antique piece of device. But when I saw that one of my neighbors have just bought a new 29" CRT TV, I was amazed at how the old technology still gets much of the sales.

I guess the most important reason for people still buying the old CRTs is the price. CRT TVs are very cheap nowadays with a 29" CRT costing just Rs.12,000. The other reason may be due to the downsides of LCD such as compatibility to adjust to different resolutions, refresh times and a few other minor things. But I think the majority of reason will be the cost factor.

The things that people hate about CRTs are that they are huge in size, consume more power both of which are LCD's plus points.

I have read somewhere that Laser TVs, OLED TVs and several other new technology TVs are on their way. But I guess we will still see a lot more of the CRTs for a few more years to come until the next generation technology becomes popular and LCDs become cheap enough compared to CRTs.
