Connectivity options for my home theater

By Praveen Edburg | Sunday, December 21, 2008

There were several connectivity options provided in my television such as HDMI, component, composite, VGA and some unknown ones too. The DVD player had component, optical and composite ports while the set top box had only component ports. So inorder to interconnect them, I had a hard time figuring out which cable to connect to which device and through which port. And to add to my confusion, I wanted to add my PC, Digital camera and PS3 with my home theater system and this made the things much harder.

I was thinking of using HDMI ports and cables as they will combine audio and video into a single cable and help in reducing cable clutter. But these HDMI ports were only available in my PC, TV and PS3. So I had to resort to another cable for the other devices.

Finally right now, all that i have managed is to connect my DVD player to the television. The other devices are yet to be interconnected and I am planning to connect them once I buy the required cables and figuring out how to interconnect them easily.
