Owing to the poor car sales over this economic turmoil, several car manufacturers have decided to drop prices and provide huge offers and discounts over the models which are not selling well.
The economic slowdown is also accompanied by the high interest rates on cars, year end sluggishness and excessive stock pillage.
Recently GM announced several price cuts on their range of cars such as Chevrolet Spark. Next was the turn of Ford to cut prices of its Fiesta car by as much as Rs.80,000. Recently Hyundai has announced price cuts for its popular Santro and Verna models by offering around Rs.30,000 as discount. The latest manufacturer to join the price cut is Tata who has also cut the prices of many of its models.
These discounts may be to clear excess stock and also to sell away the 2008 models within this month. But amid the rising input costs and depreciating rupee value, it seems the car manufacturers are desperate to get some sales going.
I will be writing about price cuts and discounts for each models in detail in the upcoming posts.
